A    POLICE sergeant and two gang members were killed in a gun battle following the robbery of a gas station in  Penonomé, Cocle, on Monday evening. October 22.

The shoot-out came after three men had carried  out an armed raid on a Delta station on the Inter-American highway in El Canto at the entrance to the city and were escaping by taxi when  they were intercepted in front of the Aquilino Tejeira hospital by a  National Police patrol car driven by second sergeant Luis Gudiño, 34, a married man with a small family who took several bullets in the chest.

A police captain brought down two of the killers, the third one is still being sought.

It was reported that the thugs were from the Las Lomas area of  Penonomé.
