A group of Curundú residents who entered the old Mercado de Abastos, (Agricultural  Market) to grab the metal from the old structures awaiting demolition, clashed with  National Police crowd control units on Monday, December 7.

The company in charge of the demolition of the market the work on December 2, the day after over 150 of the vendors from the old location opened their stalls in the new market on Via Centenario where a special Metro bus service is operating.  However,  on the weekend dozens of people from Curundú moved in to strip the site of copper and iron.

Two police officers on duty at the site were injured by stone throwers;

On Monday, five trucks filled with police arrived at the scene to prevent the theft and provide security to the personnel in charge of dismantling the structures.

The Curundú locals responded by throwing stones, bottles and other objects at police officers.
