Six new cases of hantavirus in the province of Los Santos were reported on Monday, Aug. 6, bringing the total to 55.

The regional coordinator of Epidemiology, Carlos Muñoz, said that the news patients are five adults and one child under 12. Only one a 41-year-old resident in Las Tablas developed the cardiopulmonary syndrome. The rest of the cases remained in a fever.

Muñoz said that whenever the homes of people who are sick are inspected, for risk factors ,  they find conditions that allow mouse nesting.
