Restorations to Panama’s historic  National Theatre  in Casco Viejo are nearing completion and the doors could soon be opening,

Structural work is 80% advanced in its civil work and pictorial restoration 90%., says the Ministry of the Presidency.

Built between 1905 and the building received what the presidency calls the most rigorous restoration in its 110 years history.

In a statement, the government stressed that they seek to " rescue this architectural jewel, respecting its neoclassical style and its historical value to continue being the most important showcase of cultural presentations that give identity to Panama ."

César Robles, from the National Institute of Culture (INAC), pointed out that the restoration is integral throughout the structure, respecting every detail and the architectural value of the work.

" The work not only restores Roberto Lewis's invaluable gems of art, but also reinforces the entire structure of the building, the roofs were changed, and the stage and outdoor terraces were reinforced, so the building is prepared to withstand many more years in optimal condition,” he said.
