More Panama-Venezuela flights approved

FLIGHTS  between  Panama Venezuela and  Panama  will expand from  35 to 63 weekly in spite of the debt owed by the Venezuelan government to Copa Airlines.

The decision was made during the first round of meetings of the Bilateral Political Committee held last week in the Venezuelan capital

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Panama the decision was made with the aim of boosting trade and tourism between the two countries.

After Colombia, Venezuela is the South American country that brings most  tourists to Panama.

Until last February, the Venezuelan government owed $478 million to Copa Airlines due to strict exchange controls that keep the authorities of that country on the US dollar.

In addition to Copa Airlines flights to the Venezuelan cities of Caracas and Valencia, Venezuelan  companies SBA Airlines (formerly  Santa Barbara Airlines) and Conviasa (Venezuelan Consortium Aircraft Industries and Air Service) also offer flight connections from Venezuela  to Tocumen International Airport.

In 2014  entered 187, 776 Venezuelan travelers entered Panama  through Tocumen, a decrease of 4.4% compared to 2013. More Panama-Venezuela flights approved
