A 46-year-old English teacher charged with aggravated rape and corruption of minors will remain in preventive detention in La Chorrera for six months while investigations continue a judge of Guarantees of Panama Oeste ordered on Saturday, November 23.

The teacher was arrested at his home on Friday night. He had been separated from the public school he taught in a week earlier.

The events were the result of an anonymous call on September 25 denouncing the teacher and activities carried out in his residence. On October 8 there was a search and recorded material was seized.

The parents of the child who appears in one of the videos that the Public Ministry recovered from a laptop belonging to the teacher attended the closed-door hearing.

The events were recorded between 2015 - 2016 when the victim was in pre-school and was 11 years old.

Another statement  at the hearing was  that the teacher threatened students with poor grades unless they agreed to have sex with him

Another teacher in the region was arrested earlier in the year following an international operation against child pornography.
