Prince Philip accompanied  Queen Elizabeth II    when she visited Panama in November 1953  the first visit to a foreign country since her coronation in June.

The Queen her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh arrived on the coasts of the province of Colón, aboard the Royal yacht "Gothic". the couple received a 21-gun salute and the ships near the entrance to the Canal sounded their sirens.

The president of Panama, José A. Remón, and John States Seybold, governor of the Canal, welcomed the couple.

The queen and the prince took a brief car ride through the city of Colón to the Municipal Palace where the sovereign received the keys to the city.

Later, they traveled for two hours to the capital, where they inspected the Miraflores locks.

The couple attended a gala ball in their honor, at the Union Club.

At almost midnight they boarded the yacht and set sail at 7:00 am on November  30, for the Fiji Islands, on a journey that took them to other places such as New

Zealand, Bermuda, Australia, and Gibraltar.

It was the first and only time that the monarch and her husband visited Panama. The British ambassador in Panama, Damion Potter has remembered that trip with photos on Twitter.
