Claribet Marietta Tapia Ferrer, 55,  a passenger on a chiva (mini-bus) on the San Miguelito-Torrijos Carter route lost her life and several passengers were injured during a shooting when the bus was traveling through the entrance of El Valle de Urracá, on the Transistmica on Thursday morning.

According to witnesses, the incident was due to a confrontation between  passengers

The injured were taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

A suspect was detained by the National Police.

In the district of San Miguelito, 27 homicides have been registered so far in 2023. On Wednesday afternoon, a man who was doing construction work was killed by a 19-year-old boy in Santa Marta, near the police station. In February, the  Ministry of Security deployed 300 agents belonging to the National Police, the National Aeronaval Service, and the National Border Service, as part of actions that sought to dismantle organized gang groups responsible for the acts of violence and homicides registered in recent days.

At the time, the Minister of Public Security,  Juan Manuel Pino participated in a coordination meeting with the National Police board to follow up on the actions that have been developed in this sector.

In the area, there are constant operations to counter homicides, drug trafficking and acts of violence. The discovery of a human head shocked residents.
