The Government of Panama joined world leaders in paying tribute to Senator John McCain on Sunday but avoided the hidden barb to President Trump from some like Germany and the UK  who referred to the  81 year-olds lifetime of putting his country before self.

"May John McCain rest in peace, born in Coco Solo, Colón, we celebrate his legacy and his tireless struggle for democracy, his spirit will continue to inspire us," the US Embassy in Panama said on  Twitter

"Our condolences to the people of the United States and the family of Senator John McCain, for the departure of a man who defended and loved his country, fought for democracy and peace in the world,"  said  Panamanian President Juan Carlos, on Twitter.

"He dedicated his life to public service, always working for his country and our condolences to his family and the American people," said Vice President and Foreign Minister Isabel De Saint Malo.
