Rush-hour storm brings city chaos

A powerful electric storm accompanied by 80 km wind gusts across the Bay of

Panama brought rush- hour chaos to the capital city on Monday, July 30.

 

 

The Metro subway system was suspended with some sections out of action throughout the day.

 

 

Roofs were torn off in several sectors,  power lines were brought down, and numerous cars were

crushed by

falling trees and roads were blocked in many areas.

There was widespread flooding across the city, including streets around Hospital Santo Tomas.

Some of the  inundated areas  were: El Ingenio, El Carmen Church, Vía Porras, Tumba Muerto,

Transistmica, Vía España, Vía Argentina, Paitilla, Costa del Este, San Francisco, Obarrio and Vía Brasil.
