President Juan Carlos Varela announced  on Friday,  July 19 that he  has decided to withdraw from the National Assembly the bill that modifies the Law of Fiscal Social Responsibility and the law of the Panama Savings Fund (FAP)  to  keep the discussion  “outside the political pollution that exists at the moment.”

Instead, he wants to initiate extensive consultations that “should be more focused on a technical debate. "

Earlier, the Minister of Economy and Finance (MEF) Eyda Varela de Chinchilla, announced via Twitter that the bill was  withdrawn

According to Varela, this bill "without a doubt allows us  to advance more, to improve the economic index and bring more investment."

He indicated that now they will explain the "benefits" of this initiative to the bank chiefs, social sectors of the country, such as Suntracs, and the media because he thinks they are without understanding of the project ".

"The government does not consider that the political environment created around the project contributes to a technical debate since it has to do with the economy of the country and with the employment of the families of the country," said the president during the delivery of a  new housing project in Chepo.
