FOR THOSE not planning a Christmas at home there is a raft of affordable destinations in and out of the country with Medellin, Mexico as the most outstanding according to a survey of travel agencies conducted by TVN Noticias
The list also includes, Bogota, Orlando, Cancun and Mexico City.
The increase in the number of low cost flight options and the rising value of the dollar have also been a boost for Colombian destinations.
We have a condo in Bucaramanga where we spend 4 months of the year and it's about an 8 hour ride over the mountains to Medellin. The flight from Panama City PTY is only about 1 1/2 hours to Bucaramanga which is also a beautiful city if you've never been.
The bus ride to Medellin from the airoirt is really lovely. However, how do you get to Bucaramanga so you can get the bus ride from there?
Nice catch. I'm heading there the first week in January to see this well visited spectacle. It is a reasonably inexpensive place to stay and visit and my understanding from relatives who live there is that the lighting alone is well worth the trip. I'm actually more looking forward to the bus trip from Bucaramanga to Medellin through the mountains as I always enjoy the scenery in Colombia. The well equipped double decker buses complete with air conditioning and Wi-Fi are the only ways to travel in Colombia if experiencing the culture and beauty are important to you.
I understand that Medellin is in Columbia, not Mexico! If you buy a ticket, make sure the country of your destination.
