HEALTH: blood pressure pill alert

The Department of Pharmacy and Drugs of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) issued an alert on  Wednesday, September 5  for "Acepress Irbesartan" of 300 mg from Stein Laboratories of Costa Rica, used to control blood pressure.

A statement addressed to health professionals and patients, says indicates that there have been reports of suspicions of  adverse "pharmaceutical, therapeutic and reaction to the product.”

The adverse effects include gastrointestinal discomfort, diarrhea, dizziness, nausea, bitter taste, cough, sneezing, headache, tachycardia and burning in the eyes

The Directorate of Pharmacy and Drugs initiated a national monitoring of health facilities to document the necessary information about the behavior of the product, such as a routine surveillance procedure

The authorities recommend that people, who use this medicine, go to their doctor for a review of their health condition and treatment to follow.

Health professionals are urged to monitor the condition of patients who are under treatment with irbesartan and concomitant medications.
