A harp leads way down memory lane

AMERICAN HARPIST Jan Bishop will be a central feature  in a concert  of “Music From the British Isles”  that will take you down memory lane this weekend.

She will be supported byseven local musicians, Daniel Galvez, David Montero, Lorenzo Olivero, Eylin Rocha, Johana Rodriguez, Manuel Ruiz, and  Susan Samudio) performing  folk  music and familiar tunes from England, Wales, Scotland  and Ireland.  The presentations will supplemented with  vocal support. Expats brought up in Ireland or Wales will certainly remember harp based ditties like  The Harp that once Through Tara's halls and Dafydd y Gareg Wen (David of the White  Rock.)

 Jan  has lived most of her life in Ohio. She and her husband have had a home in Panama since 2009.

Since 1968 Jan has been principal harpist with the Lima Symphony Orchestra in Lima, Ohio and has soloed with the symphony on several occasions.  She performs on a free-lance basis in the Findlay and Lima areas, teaches Suzuki harp and has an adjunct in harp instruction at the University of Findlay.  She  has been a member of two harp trios and An active  board member of the American Harp Society and recently  became one of the youngest people o receive the society’s  Lifetime Achievement., award.

The concert is at St Luke´s Cathedral´s office, Calle Gorgas, Ancon at 3 pm on Sunday August 21.
