THE PANAMA flagged container ship MSC Lucia was hijacked by pirates in the Gulf of Guinea International media reported on Monday, November 25.

The vessel was heading from Lomé (Togo) to Douala (Cameroon) when it was attacked by an unknown number of criminals 86 nautical miles (159 kilometers) from the Agbami terminal”.

The Maritime Bulletin portal reported that the Russian Navy supply ship Akademik Pashin approached the container ship to provide assistance to the vessel and its crew. Russian marines boarded the ship and remove the pirates               

The waters of the Gulf of Guinea are considered high risk due to the frequency of attacks by pirates.
