Two 4X4  vehicles were swept away, on Sunday night, by the flooding of the La Pita stream, in the Carlos Santana Ávila district, Veraguas province.

One person died and five were rescued, reported the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc).

The 46-year-old driver of one of the vehicles was trapped, while the rest were able to get out e and climb onto a nearby island.

Officials from Sinaproc and the Fire Department participated in the search and rescue operation.

Sinaproc reiterated that it issued a national prevention notice, which will last until August 24, due to the entry into the country of tropical wave No. 29.

The call was made to the population to be aware of the levels of the rivers and streams.

So far this year 13 people have died in similar incidents said Carlos Rumbo Director of Sinaproc.
