Health Ministry readies for possible cholera outbreak

Responding to the cholera outbreak in Haiti the Ministry of Health (Minsa) has convened a situation room to organize and plan possible actions and responses to the arrival of cases in Panama.

This year, Haiti has experienced a resurgence of cholera cases, which has left more than 10 dead, and the Minsa is closely following the situation in the Caribbean country and invites the population to maintain hygiene measures such as hand washing and disinfection of objects.

The Ministry, through the General Directorate of Public Health, began the process of updating this National Guide for the Comprehensive Approach to Cholera, due to the outbreak in Haiti and the formulation of the budgeted execution plan for the response to the contingency.

Cholera is an infectious disease due to the consumption of contaminated water or food, which is spread through fecal matter and is treated through the replacement of fluids and salts through an oral or intravenous rehydration solution, among others
