Panama’ s  former Director of Revenue, Luis Cucalón, lost his final appeal in the Second Superior Court against his   8-year jail sentence for embezzlement and corruption, in the Cobranzas del Istmo SA case involving fraudulent tax collecting.

Cucalón, who remains in custody, has already served four years in preventive detention  2 years of which were in the comforts of Panama’s most expensive hospital So he has half of the sentence to be served.

The sentence of 8 years was pronounced in the first instance by the First Criminal Court on September 14, 2018. Subsequently, the sentence was confirmed by the Second Court on January 31, 2019.
