Ex-president files complaint over   WhatsApp threats

Former President  Juan Carlos Varela has filed a complaint for "violation, alteration and manipulation of the privacy of communications" of him, his relatives "and of all citizens who talked with him, including current officials, judges, deputies, journalists, trade union leaders, trade unionists and civil society. "

The complaint was filed by lawyer Alfreda Smith, before the Office of Primary Care, of the Public Ministry. 

In a statement, Varela said that on Thursday, November 14, he received anonymous threats via WhatsApp, and disclosed some excerpts from them. T

he former director of the National Security Council, Rolando López, also received anonymous messages.

The messages come from the number 6867-6551. However, when calling it, a recording appears indicating that this number "has not been assigned" reports La Prensa

In the messages denounced by the former president, reference is made to the Varelaleaks, the website that has disclosed Varela's communications by WhatsApp, between 2017 and 2018.
