The  driver of a truck that collided with 38 vehicles in El Chorrillo on August 21 and led to the death of a taxi passenger and injuries to three people, is in preventive detention

Lorenzo Samuels is charged with aggravated manslaughter.

During the hearing,  before a Judge of Guarantees Samuels apologized to the relatives and repeated his version that he was being threatened by two armed men who forced him to travel to the area.

According to a statement issued on August 22, police indicated that a driver of an articulated truck did not heed the warning of police units before the multiple collisions.

Franklin Serrano, Commissioner of the Police, said the truck was coming from San Miguelito.

The driver's defense announced that they will appeal the decision of the judge on  Tuesday, August 27.
