Chile-bound flight diverted to Panama when pilot died

Flight LA 505 of the Chilean airline Latam, en route from Miami to Santiago, Chile with 271 passengers, had to land in Panama City due to a medical emergency for one of the three members of the command crew, according to the airline.

The airline explained that despite the fact that all the necessary security protocols were carried out, after the attention and medical assistance on the ground, the pilot unfortunately died.

“As a Latam group, we are deeply moved by what happened and we extend our most sincere condolences to the family of our collaborator. We are deeply appreciative of his 25-year career and his valuable contribution, he has always stood out for his dedication, professionalism, and dedication," said a company statement.

The deceased pilot was identified as Iván Andaur, a prominent air professional with more than 25 years of experience.

The flight resumed at 5 pm, when the aircraft took off from the Tocumen International Airport, bound for Santiago de Chile, authorities from the air terminal reported.

The Civil Aeronautical Authority of Panama said they received an emergency call at dawn on Tuesday from the crew of Latam flight LA 505 asking to enter Panamanian airspace and land at Tocumen International Airport.
