5.1 earthquake shakes Panama city

Labor Day was ushered in with A 5.1 magnitude earthquake that shook several sectors of Panama at 1.13 a.m. on Saturday.

Preliminarily data, said that it was 5.7, but The Institute of Geosciences of the University of Panama verified the magnitude of 5.1. It had its epicenter in the village of Santa Isabel, in the province of Colón. The area is adjacent to the Guna Yala region.

It was felt with greater intensity in the provinces of Panama, Panama Oeste and Colón, and the region of Guna Yala.

Personnel from the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) carried out tours at dawn on Saturday, especially in medical centers

Sinaproc ruled out a  tsunami alert.
