King Charles III withdrew from his son Henry and his wife Meghan Markle, now settled in the United States, the use of Frogmore Cottage, their residence in the United Kingdom, after the publication of the prince's controversial book, revealed The Sun on Wednesday.

According to the newspaper, Buckingham Palace sent "an expulsion notice" to the couple, who left the United Kingdom in 2020 and since then have multiplied attacks against the royal family.

Frogmore Cottage , a five-bedroom residence situated near Windsor Castle in West London, was given as a residence to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex by Queen Elizabeth II in 2018 as a wedding gift.

The expensive renovation works that the couple did, for more than $2.4 million financed with public money, caused a scandal and Prince Harry had to return the sum.

According to The Sun, Charles III has not proposed a new residence to the Dukes of Sussex, so they will not have a royal residence during their few visits to the United Kingdom.

This decision appears to be in retaliation for the publication earlier this year of the memoir "In the Shadows", in which the youngest son of the British monarch settles scores with his family.

The Sun newspaper also reported that the king would have asked Prince Andrew to move to Frogmore Cottage, with the idea of reducing the expenses of his younger brother, who currently resides in a luxurious property in Windsor.

Buckingham Palace, contacted by AFP, declined to comment
