Woman in ICU fights killer virus for 35 days

  A 44-year old woman, the first patient diagnosed with COVID-19 in the province of Colón was discharged on Thursday, April  23 after  35 days in the intensive care unit of Dr. Manuel A. Guerrero Hospital.

A  multidisciplinary team performed various procedures, such as intubation and tracheostomy, until she improved and was able to breathe on her own.

Susana Betegón, deputy medical director of the hospital, stressed that it was a complex task and highlighted the work of the staff, in the midst of the crisis.

The majority of patients in intensive care units (ICUs) are receiving treatments with substances such as heparin and steroids. Both drugs help improve the patient's health when problems arise, including inflammation and blood clots.
