WHO declares end of covid-19 pandemic

During its 15th meeting to discuss the pandemic, the Emergency Committee of the International Health Regulations of the World Health Organization (WHO) together with the director general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, announced that the health emergency due to the covid-19 pandemic has ended.

"For more than a year, the pandemic has had a downward trend," Tedros said during a press conference on Friday, May 5. Likewise, He clarified that the virus continues to circulate in practically all the countries of the world, for which he called on governments to continue monitoring its progress.

The Minister of Health of Panama, Luis Francisco Sucre, indicated that the end of the health emergency is an important step to continue eliminating the state of the pandemic and subsequently remain in an endemic stage.

“The world has constantly advanced in everything related to Covid-19, the WHO announced the elimination of the state of global health emergency and it should be remembered that in Panama this had already been lifted with respect to the administrative issue, but what does remain in the whole world is in the pandemic stage,” Sucre said.

However, the mandatory measure for the use of a mask in all health facilities remains in force .
