Influenza death total reaches 32 – all unvaccinated

Five new deaths from influenza in the last week were reported by the Ministry of Health (Minsa) on Tuesday, July 18 bringing the accumulated number of deaths from the virus rises to 32, of which 16 are women and 16 men.

According to the Minsa, the last deceased are 4 women and one man; three had influenza A and two had influenza B. They range in age from 7 months to 88 years.

"None of the deceased had been vaccinated against influenza," said the ministry.

The 32 deaths have been registered in various parts of the country: in the Metropolitan area 8 died, in Panama Oeste 7, in Panamá Norte 3, in San Miguelito 3, in Chiriquí 3, in Darién 2, in Veraguas 2 and with one death are the health regions of Colón, Bocas del Toro, Coclé and one with residence in San Miguelito, but was confined to Panama East (Chepo).

According to information from the Expanded Immunization Program, a total of 1,231,362 doses of the influenza vaccine have been applied from April 12 to July 17.
