Sydney, I studied Uruguay last month also. There are many good reasons to go there but there are also many not to. Its a very poor country with very little to offer. Most of the expats there say they get bored to death and it has a very expensive cost of living.

Never knew Panama was such a low brow place. We are thinking of Uruguay for retirement. After reading what goes on in Panama we can scratch it off our list.

There is much confusion among the children in Panama as to whether they should call their biological father "daddy or uncle". A very common refrain heard often here is "Uncle Daddy can I go outside and play?"

Look you can't blame the 14 year old girls they are just doing what they have been taught to do. They see their older sisters, mothers, aunts and cousins doing it, especially during carnival. These girls are just learning through example how the culture here functions and they know what is expected of them. It should be law in Panama that all girls must get planification when they start menses. As mention by another poster it would lead to a lot less autism via incest.

Snake, they try to bring sex ed into the curriculum almost every year and it's contested by the catholic church every time. They have blatantly stated that in the news so, no, the church does bear some accountability.

I am not a Catholic but the Catholic church is hardly to blame. If the government went after these men that take advantage of young girls, it would slow down considerably. There is your problem. The government almost condones it by turning a blind eye to it. They will send out teams of police to enforce the C19hoax but not to protect young girls.

The pregnancies going forward will mostly be from family members since these girls have been locked up for months with their cousins, brothers, uncles and yes even fathers. Incest in Panama is prevalent but is not a topic that people don't like to discuss. Some say inbreeding accounts for the lower IQ and learning rates within Panama. It would make an excellent study for a graduate thesis.

I have seen these girls in the clubs dressed scantily and with way too much makeup. Usually at the table of a Papi Chulo. The police are usually outside checking ID's so how these girls get in is beyond me. All these poor 15 year olds with $800 Iphones are getting them from their "papis". It's as much a part of the culture here as Seco and Tipico music. I don't see it changing.

How about lobbying the Catholic church for sex education in the public schools for a start. You've identified the problem (which is real), now how about offering up a solution instead of stating the obvious and thinking you've "enlightened" everyone?

Why so much hate for JB? Dude just tells the truth about what really happens down here. You people live in Panama? Ever even been here? Do you speak any Spanish? Very common for older Panamanian men here to be with under age girls. It's the culture here. The proof is in the high teen pregnancy rates. If you attack people who speak the truth and act like the problem isn't real how can you hope to improve it? JB's got a point it happens alot during Carnival. The PH and discos are packed with drunk adolescent Cholitas who end up impregnated. So it's a cultural problem!

Instead of once again underscoring his vulgarity,j bbrown should consider that what he jokes about is a crime, with a long jail term attached although his fellow rednecks may think it's ok. I presume he doesn't have any daughters.

The Catholic church says that sex education should stay in the home.......case in point. Leave it to the uncles, brothers, cousins and boyfriends.

How is this news? Happens every year in February during Carnaval. The 50 year olds mount a 14 year old to "rejuvenate" themselves. Teen pregnancies are more common than sweat here!
