In the last four weeks, the highest incidence of new covid-19 cases was registered in unvaccinated children under 20 years of age with at least 1,600 cases reports the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

The Panamanian health authorities had already anticipated this epidemiological situation and according to PAHO figures, two cases were confirmed in that period among those under 30 years of age, for each case in those over 60.

"It is specified that the group of 20 to 30 years old with between 1,400 and 1,500 new infections in the same weeks follows in descending order. In third place is the group of 30 to 40 years with 1,300 to 1,400, while in the 40 to 50 years the cases range from 1,050 to 1,200 cases and the 50 to 60 years of 800 to 950.

Likewise, it is highlighted that the groups aged 60 to 70 and over 70 years report similar numbers: between 350 and 400 cases, reflecting a slight decrease in the last week (Epidemiological Week 29; from July 18 to 24).

Last week Panama began the nationwide vaccination of people over 16 years of age and is also immunizing minors between the ages of 12 and 16 with chronic diseases or certified disabilities.
