THE SUPREME COURT cannot act on its own in the case of Financial Pacific to challenge the presiding judge of that entity, and if the officer does not name himself a cause of impediment to the process, his colleagues cannot do so.
This represents a very serious dilemma for Panamanian society. It is an unprecedented situation in the annals of justice that a judge, seriously questioned for allegedly pressuring witnesses and court officials to favor the person that he pretends to judge, not to voluntarily declare himself prevented from handling the case.
If the presiding judge does not act in the spirit of the law, and if those who should complain evade their responsibility, the only thing remaining for us citizens is to mobilize public opinion to challenge him morally. What they are trying to impose on the country makes the highest court of justice lose its original last name, to become the "supreme court of impunity" and that must be repudiated by the whole nation.
