A sick culture raging on city roads

Hoy por Hoy, La Prensa, Sep 21.

VIOLENCE between drivers, traffic accidents for the lack of courtesy, and the absence of human solidarity reflected in the traffic victims who are left on their own in the streets, are no longer exceptional anecdotes.

Where is so much anger coming from? The source can be the cost of living, the insecurity and the irresponsible way in which we allow that more than one million cars saturate the broken streets and narrow alleys of a city without any planning.

It is ironic that the city urbanized by Belisario Porras a century ago is more friendly and comfortable than the one developed in recent decades.

We cannot forget the sad role of the transit authorities, converted in fee and operating bus certificates issuing  loot of the politicians, who indifferent to everyday reality and shielded by bodyguards, sirens, vehicles with yellow stripes and helicopters, have stopped facing the reality of ordinary mortals. The culture of citizens, both drivers and pedestrians has formed an attitude of all against all with no hint of improvement.

We are sick and need help urgently. Very soon the anger and rage can degenerate into worse evils that we still have time to avoid.
