Panama has joined the High Ambition Coalition, co-chaired by Norway and Rwanda, which brings together like-minded countries, advocating ambitious targets for the new legally binding instrument to address the growing amount of choking plastic waste on our planet, according to the Ministry of the Environment.

Kirving Lañas, the coordinator of Cleaner Production in the Ministry of the Environment (MiAmbiente), said that Panama adheres to the important coalition during the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiation Committee (INC), to elaborate an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, particularly in the marine environment, which took place in Uruguay, from November 28 to December 2.

According to Lañas, Panama, by being part of the High Ambition Coalition, confirms its commitment to aim high in the intergovernmental negotiations for a global agreement to end plastic pollution by 2040.

Lañas indicated that Panama presented to the Intergovernmental Negotiation Committee a declaration on the Roadmap for Plastic Management in Panama, which sets out the actions carried out by the country to reduce the possible negative impacts and contamination that may be generated. due to the excessive use and unsustainable final disposal of plastic items.
