Panama’s first community garden intended to help older citizens has been opened in the capital in the midst of the COVID-19  pandemic  It is an initiative launched by the community board of the Don Bosco district.

It is in  an orchard located in Los Robles, next to the Communal House of the township that began to be built on May 25 and contains  tomatoes, chili peppers, avocados, beans, ginger, coriander, among others

The venture also seeks to train residents and give them the tools to develop home gardens in order to promote responsible consumption and ensure food for the community in the face of the pandemic.

 Michelle de De León, the coordinator of the community board's environmental department, said that the training will be virtual, and in principle, it will be for 60 residents who must register on the community board's website. The training will culminate with a visit to the garden, she said.

This initiative becomes the first community garden in the city and is part of the Don Bosco Verde project, consisting of several environmental-social focus programs.
