The use of solar panels in Panama homes and shops has been on a constant upswing in recent months with experts forecasting a massive swing to the technology as prices continue to  drop.

Residential and business customers of the Edemet, Edechi and ENSA electric distribution companies have already invested in solar panels to connect to the network through small photovoltaic systems.

There are 109 commercial and residential customers in different parts of the country that have taken advantage of the resolution which approves the procedure for connection to the network of individual plants from renewable sources up to 500 kW.

While this is a small number, experts believe that it is a first step for the massive use of this energy source reports  La Prensa

Among these 109 customers there is an installed capacity of 6,935 kilowatts, according to the records of the National Public Services Authority (ASEP).

The benefits for users are reduced electricity costs and optimizing natural resources.

Clients are able to recoup their investment in between eight and 10 years, depending on the number of panels installed reports  La Prensa

That cost should go down as more people purchase the panels and as the government continues to add incentives.
