Panamanian scientists and friends of science will unite online from April 22 to 26, 2020 to celebrate the fourth March for Science, a global initiative that seeks to highlight the importance of science in everyday life reports TVN.

The march moves to the virtual world due to the COVID-19, a pandemic that has highlighted the importance of scientific research for humanity.

They invite the population to join the initiative writing on their social networks: Why do you support science?

To participate you must record a 30-second video or take a picture with a banner with a message indicating why you love science. Then, upload it to their social networks with #MarchaPorLaCiencia #YoAmoLaCciencia #ConCienciaHayFuturo # CienciaEnPanamá.

People can upload as many messages as they like. They also invite the population to share their photos of participating in the March for Science from previous years.

In the case of Panama, the March for Science seeks to draw attention to the need to base public policies on scientific evidence, and the need for society to have adequate budgets for universities and public education and research centers, in financing for researchers.

The initiative is led by the Science movement in Panama, in coordination with the National Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation (Senacyt), the BiMuseo, the Smithsonian Institute for Tropical Research, the City of Knowledge Foundation, and the  University of South Florida, among others.

They exhort society in general, friends of science, teachers, academics, students and scientists from

all fields of knowledge, to share in the activity.
