The Panama Maritime Chamber (CMP) has called for the July reopening of Tocumen International Airport "without fail",  following the protocols of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) and international organizations.

The Chamber brings together more than 200 companies from the marine, logistics and port sectors of the country.

"International commercial flights are vital to revive tourism and crew change service and represent for most CMP companies 30 to 50 percent of their monthly turnover, income that is affecting the industry, with the restrictions of airport operations since the start of COVID-19 in Panama, ”said  Nicolás Vukelja the group’s president.

"Auxiliary maritime companies provide added value to our maritime route with support services for ships that transit the Panama Canal,”

According to the union, the crew change services represent a “strong income” of $3 million dollars a month to the country's economy, involving the unionized auxiliary maritime companies, with services that are activated from the crew's arrival at the airport, until boarding their boat in our waters and vice versa with the departure of the sailors from the country.

The crew change service represents the movement of more than 3,000 seafarers a month and involves a conglomerate of services such as agencies, shipping companies, private land transport, hotels, restaurants, boat services, migration services

"The reopening of the Tocumen International is a vital and important start for the revival of tourism and the arrival of investors in our country," says the union.

Due to the COVID-19 health crisis, the airport only handles humanitarian and cargo flights.

Syliva it is best you not come here because you believe the haters and trolls on this site . The jews are not leaving anymore than they normally do to go home and visit .i have jewish friends waiting to return as soon as the airport opens .so if you believe the crap and BS posted here by a bunch of folks you best stay away and we have enough people here that dont understand a 3rd world country ..it would be way safer to stay there and watch a bunch of blacks and whites dressed in black burn and loot the place to the ground . Liberalism find the cure

After several exploratory trips to Panama since 2016 we had decided to retire there this Fall. We had been looking a properties in Altos Del Maria. Reading the news in Panama and reading the comments on here and other forums has given us pause. We know Panama is third world but we thought it was a stable third world country. Seeing how expats are fleeing in mass and how the Jews also fled has made us change our opinion. We are not fans of Marxism in any form. We are going to look at Florida and Arizona as potential alternatives to Panama. May God keep and protect everyone still trapped in Panama. You are in our prayers.

Can't do Tourism without people. If immigration kicks out all the Folks with expired Visa stamps, no Tourism...People can't come to Panama ie: Canada is not allowing international flights out of country, The U.S. is not...many other Countries the same...sooo Immigration must give those with expire tourist Visa's an extension, restamp the Passports..to either allow these folks with expired Visa Stamps to apply for their residency...or to remain in Country and spend their money and help boost Panama's economy. Covid19 wasn't a choice...some forgiveness in the area of Tourism would go a long way regarding Visa extensions ect.

OK let's for fun say that they open the airport on July 23 as promised, who would come here? Everything is closed and shutdown, no travel between provinces, most bars and restaurants have gone out of business, There are no tours to see the canal, Casinos (rip off) are closed, beaches are closed and couldn't get to them anyways and if you did they are covered in trash. So why would anyone come here? Every person will need a Covid passport for every member of the family (cost?), maybe a 14 day quarantine and many other Byzantine rules. Every other tourist place on the planet is going to be offering deep discounts to try and get the few people who still have money and no fear of the virus. Excellent 1st world type resorts for less than Panama. Think Aruba, Bahamas, Mexico, Jamaica, for just a few examples. So open the airport and it will make no difference at this point. The tourist businesses will not recover for a very long time. I predict more airline bankruptcy's going forward. The U.S. Embassy alone is running at least 10 evacuation flights a month to rescue people trapped in Panama. Even the Jews have fled! Why would anyone come vacation in this Marxist, sweltering, mosquito infested shite hole? I await your replies of wisdom!

Panama must get rid of Cortizo anyway. The cases are skyrocking because of the persistent failures the shutdowns and the behavior of the police. If a soon opening would happen the cases would drop and the deaths beside the virus would drastically shrinking. Domestic violence self killings and other unnatural deaths of Panamanians are the result of a man who makes literally everything and i really mean everything wrong. Kick him out asap and reopen the country. He must stop unnerving the whole region.

The virus is worse than ever, hospitals filled to capacity, healthcate workers exhausted. The Pandemic is way worse now than when they closed the airport back in March. So don't expect it to open anytime soon. If it was going to open soon the USA wouldn't be sponsoring 10 more planes to rescue even more people from the collapse of Panama.
