After a hiccup caused by the delay in publishing the decree in the Official Gazette the announced lifting of the American Continent’s only dry law in the fight against coronavirus,   the limited sale of liquor in Panama resumed on Friday, May 8 for home consumption only.

The retail sale will only be allowed for e personal use at home and purchases must be made within the framework of current mobility.

The sale can only be made in commercial establishments that have a license for the sale of alcoholic beverages.

Consumers can only purchase a bottle of wine or six units of beer or liquor of any kind.

No solidarity coupons
The authorities clarified on  Friday afternoon "the use of the solidarity bond or any other type of subsidy granted by the State for the purchase of alcoholic beverages is prohibited."

The distribution, sale, and consumption is also prohibited in the communities, regions or provinces that, as of the effective date of the decree, are under a sanitary fence and those that enter this condition in the future.

Officials of the Ministry of Commerce and Industries and the Authority for Consumer Protection (Acodeco) will ensure compliance.

The Ministry of Health said  Friday that the ban on all kinds of meetings remains; and especially the consumption of liquor in public spaces, anywhere in the country.
