The Board of Directors of the Panama Canal (ACP) approved on Thursday, December 12 a $1.786.41  billion direct contribution to the  State from the surpluses and rights per ton of traffic for the fiscal year 2019.

The figure of $1.786.41 billion is higher than the $1.703 of the fiscal year 2018 and the 1.650 billion of 2017, when the entry into operation of the expansion in June 2016 was clearly reflected in the numbers,

The results seem to show what the ACP authorities had already advanced that the United States and Chinese trade war, the first and second-largest road users, respectively, would have a "minimal" impact on the business, which they would no longer perceive. around $30 million dollars for that traffic.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors and Minister for Channel Affairs, Aristides Royo, said that the new record number of contributions to the Treasury"It has an additional meaning" because this month "marks the 20th anniversary of the transfer of the Canal to Panama" by the United States, which built it at the beginning of the last century and operated until December 1999.

"In these two decades we Panamanians have demonstrated our ability to fulfill the entrusted task " of leading this important international trade bridge, Royo said

The canal  connects more than 140 sea routes and 1,700 ports in 160 countries and has as its main market the transport of containers, although the inaugurated expansion has given way to new markets, such as large cruise ships or liquefied natural gas (LNG) ships.
