Cruise ship arrivals in Panama up 5.7%

CRUISE ship arrivals in Panama increased 5.7% in the first five months of the year with 215,581 cruise tourists, generating $27 million in revenue.

The Panama Tourism Authority notes that in the first five months of the year, "... an average of 45,000 monthly cruise passengers disembarked at the port at the edge of the city of Colon and in the port in Amador on the Pacific entrance to the Canal."


The statistics of the Comptroller General of  reported that "... the number of cruise passengers entering, had a substantial increase, of 14,000 passengers up to April 2014, compared with the same period last year." 

Cruise passengers spend the most out of all tourists who visit Panama. According to estimates by the Florida Caribbean Cruises Association , FCCA, "... A passenger who disembarks at a Caribbean port spends an average of $125." 

Panamaamerica.com.pa reports that "... for the 2014-2015 season the arrival of 100 vessels are expected in the ports of Colon 2000 and at Gatun Lake in the Panama Canal."Cruise ship arrivals in Panama up 5.7%
