One of Panama’s recent welcome acquisitions has been renowned Canadian artist Yolanda Van Der Kolk, currently on a visit to her home country where she is working on a painting to be auctioned at a major charity function, organized by the Canadian Association of Panama.

She and her husband are now living in Panama, and actively involved in helping  local groups in their newly adopted country.
The event on October 9, at the Sheraton (Atlapa) Hotel, will be marking Canadian Thanksgiving , and proceeds from ticket sales and the auction will go to the Fundacion Amigos del Ninos con Leucemia y Cancer(Fanlyc) whose founder Leslie Ducruet will be guest of honor. She will be joined by the ambassadors of Canada, France and the United Kingdom and representatives of major Canadian companies established in Panama.
Yolanda’s father Henk Van Der Kolk, co-founder of the Toronto International Film Festival, which has grown to be one of the most prestigious events on the movie circuit, will also be at the dinner.
There will be door prizes, a tombola, music and the opportunity to mingle with all the guests. It’s a night not to be missed.
Canadian Thanksgiving follows traditions established by it’s indigenous population (First Nations) who gave thanks for a bountiful harvest, although the first recoded Thanksgiving took place in what is now Newfoundland in 1578 when Martin Frobisher and his crew, gave thanks for having survived their attempts at discovering a northwest passage.
Tickets are moving quickly, but it is still possible to purchase a table (10 seats $450) or individual tickets at $45. For information or reservations call 6619-6890 or 6679-8299.
