Twenty  eight deaths were registered across Panama during Carnival celebrations.

The figures were released Tuesday by Commissioner Bartholomew Aguero,  director of  National Police operations.(PN).

There were 13 killings across the country in places not related to culeco areas,   eight deaths from traffic accidents,  and seven drowning.

Aguero said that the transit events occurred within and outside the operating path of Carnival.

The PN statistics do not include the suicide of a man in Penonome, Cocle, and the death of ex-boxer Adalides Munoz, who was died in the fire on Calle 21, El Chorrillo, on Sunday. With these two victims the figure rises to 30 dead.

According to official statistics, this year the number of deaths exceeded the previous two years. In 2011 there were 18 deaths at carnivals and in 2010 there were 25.

Aguero said that in the areas adjacent to  the Cinta Costera celebrations, 20 firearms were seized.

Until Tuesday afternoon  365,000, were checked by radar with  219 registering as drunk on breathlyzers and 392 cars were towed. The Transit Authority (ATTT) handed out 810 tickets for disregarding signals.

But intially refused to be tested on the grounds that they were players. Both were detained and their cars towed.

The Civil Protection body (sinaproc)reported 15,155  bathers on beaches covered  by thye body during Carnival 2012.  Six were saved from the water and 18 others were treated for bites, shock, and blood pressure.

Until, Shrove Tuesday morning 127,030 vehicles had traveled from Panama City to the interior, and another 73,490 had returned. Emergency Operations in Aguadulce.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) reported that it had served 3,123 people in different parts of the country.
