The first fatal casualty of the fighting between riot police and protestors was Jerome Montezuma, a student of the Autonomous University of Chiriquí (UNACHI). The closing of the entrance to the  David, on the bridge over the river Risacua prevents vehicles moving to Panama City.

The National Police (PN) have set up a checkpoint at the entrance of the town of the town.
Police stationed in the area said the measure was taken because there is still no  road safety for vehicular traffic on the Trans-Panama route  and some of the cars that passed earlier were stoned by protesters. The statement contradicts earlier claims by Raul Mulino, Minister of Justice, that traffic was flowing freely and the highways had been cleared.
Stuck  at the site in addition to the Police, is a group of carriers and tourists waiting to travel to Panama City/

Two days earlier the government, in an effort to reduce the effects of closures on tourists, had airlifted stranded travelers who were later welcomed by President Ricardo Martinelli.

Meanwhile the US Embassy has issued an alert to American citizens.
