STRONG WINDS in Chiriquí, have led the  Ministry of Environment to suspend entry to the top of the Barú volcano by the paths from Los Llanos, located in the town of Volcán.

The regional director of the Ministry of Environment, Yilka Aguirre, said that as a precaution, entry  will be suspended in the upland district until there are better weather conditions.

Park rangers are on duty  at the entrances of all roads and park trails

Monitoring is being carried out in the rest of the protected areas of Chiriquí and for the moment, people can enter the areas of Camiseta, Chiriquero and Respingo.

The official recommended that domestic and foreign tourists take all possible precautions

He said that if the strong winds "deteriorate the protected areas" or if trees are downed entrance to the Volcan Baru National Park will be suspended.

Other parks in the province remain open.
