Speeding SUV brings traffic death toll near 450

A MAN in his 70 ‘s  was killed  by a speeding SUV at 5.30 am on Calle 9A in Rio Bajo on Saturday, Nov 17 . bringing the toll on Panama’s highways so far this year to 446.

The area where the latest fatality was recorded  has a 40 km speed limit, but police say vehicles routinely pass by at high speed and ignore local traffic signals.

Later in the day at 4pm  a crash involving an articulated truck and two SUV’s at blocked two lanes of the Panama-Colon highway for several hours. causing a major traffic impasse.

Firefighters  got the injured drivers out of  their vehicles and they were treated by paramedics before being taken to health centers by ambulance.
