SIX CONSORTIA who are planning to bid on the design and construction of the fourth bridge over the Panama Canal  have pre-qualified.

The bidders include groups   led by Brazilian company Odebrecht and Spanish company Sacyr. Another company competing is the Korean firm Hyundai. There are also Chinese companies in competition

The work is estimated to cost more than $1 billion and will include tracks for the third line of the Panama Metro.

The six groups  submitted their documentation in May.

The Ministry of Public Works is expected to review the findings this week.
