Search continues for missing flood victims

THE SEARCH continues for five missing people including an infant in Las Nubes Cerro Punta, Chiriqui,  after floods from the Viejo river destroyed  16 homes and damaged 59 others. 

Nine people have died and 101 are homeless including 31 women, 15 children and 14 infants, and three bridges have collapsed. Members of the Civil Protection Agency (SINAPROC) are searching among the rubble for bodies.

 

Personnel from various government institution are involved in cleaning streets  blocked by sludge, logs and stones After cleaning they will determine whether housing, which must be sanitized, may be inhabited or rebuilt. It will also assess whether families should be relocated reports La Prensa

The governor of Chiriquí, Hugo Mendez, said the aim is clean the streets, coordinated with establishing water connections and delivering dry food and other necessities.
