WHILE president of the National Assembly Rubén De León has accused the PRD and the CD party of attempting to stage a coup to oust President Juan Carlos Varela and the Country’s Comptroller, with the strings being pulled from Miami by ex-President Ricardo Martinelli, the PRD’s National Executive Committee has asked its prosecutor to investigate his election to the post.

PRD President Benicio Robinson asked for the investigation after six members of the caucus, including De León, joined a coalition of CD and Panameñista members to defeat PRD Deputy Crispiano Adames, who was supported by a majority of the caucus.
PRD General Secretary Carlos Pérez Herrera said that the responsibility of each of the members will be determined by the investigation.
If warranted, the case could go before the PRD's Court of Honor and Discipline.
Other members who are considered dissidents by the deeply divided PRD are Leandro Avila, Quibian Panay, Elías Castillo, Pedro Miguel González and Javier Ortega.
