Panama plans to end child labor by 2020

HUNDREDS  of Panamanians joined a parade on the Cinta Costera on Sunday, June 11 to show their support for the country’s aim to eliminate child labor by 2020.

The “Great Walk Against Child Labor”.was organized by The Ministry of Labor and Labor Development (Mitradel) .

This year's motto was  "Children have rights, protect us from child labor". The activity is linked to  celebration of the World Day against Child Labor, Monday, June 12.

Zulphy Santamaría, Minister of Labor said that "together we will achieve the goal of turning Panama into a country free of child labor by 2020".

"By hiring children, we are stealing their future and diminishing their opportunities to study," said Santamaria.

According to Mitradel statistics there are  some 23,855 children  working in Panama.
