NATIONAL Assembly President Adolfo Valderrama insisted on Thursday July 24 that he will summon Panama’s Comptroller Gioconda Torres de Bianchini,  before the House to answer questions about spending during the previous administration.

"Our role is to supervise. And the comptroller controls all the spending of resources of the state," said Valderrama.

On Wednesday night the opposition bench of the CD blocked a proposal of the PRD and Panameñista parties, as well as independent Ana Matilde Gómez, to summon the comptroller, to answer questions about public finances during the last administration, reports La Prensa.

Torres de Bianchini was an employee of Ricardo Martinelli when he appointed her to overlook his administration’s expenditures. When he was named President,  Juan Carlos Varela listed her among a group of Martinelli appointees he would want to resign. Among the many criticisms of her term in office was a $200,000 Christmas Party, or her staff in 2013.
