State owned Tocumen  International  S.A. is opposing the addition of two new members on the board of directors of the National Directorate of Airports.

The Directorate t is part of the Civil Aeronautical Authority (AAC). The National Assembly is to debate the expansion that is part of a draft law presented by PRD Deputy Carlos Motta, who says the Directorate should include a representative of pilots and another  of aircraft owners.

The proposal amends the law that dictates the regulatory framework for the administration of airports, as well as the one that created the CAA.

Vilma De Luca Diez, vice president of legal counsel for Tocumen, S.A., asked the Transport Committee of the National Assembly to submit the proposal to a wide­ranging public consultation.

She said that it is necessary to be "careful" about increasing the board, since it will increase costs reports La Prensa.

Motta said that his proposal seeks to have representation of at least one member each from the Pilots Association and the Aircraft Owners of Panama.

"It is important that decisions in aviation are not only made by the airlines and Tocumen, S.A.," he said.
