PANAMANIANS are not exempt from suffering from endemic diseases such as chikungunya, zika or dengue, which have already claimed thousands of victims In other countries of the region.

In the face of such a worrying global scenario, the Gorgas  Institute of Health Studies (Icges)

has demonstrated, once again, its ability to control and try to eradicate these diseases.

On this occasion, thanks to its rapid Intervention and coordinated work with the epidemiological entities of the Ministry of Health, it was able to prevent the Chikungunya virus from becoming an epidemic. It What Icges scientists and Health officials have saved Panamanian society  is no small thing and a well-deserved recognition of the incalculable value of scientific research facing the dilemmas of public health.

It is for the authorities to not hesitate to provide the necessities  to guarantee their subsistence, and never allow that neither politics nor corruption  to hijack these institutions. In health issues, we are all responsible.
